Jesus of Nazareth
According to the New Testament, Jesus of Nazareth was born in Bethlehem, Judea, and appeared on the scene of New Testament history at the age of around 30.
Surrounded by a handful of disciples, including the twelve apostles, he embarked on an itinerant preaching ministry lasting around three years, arousing both great fervor among the crowds and the hostility of the religious authorities. He was arrested, condemned and crucified in Jerusalem under the administration of the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate.
According to the Gospels, it was the announcement of his resurrection by his disciples, who recognized him as the Messiah and passed on his teachings, that gave birth to Christianity. For Christians, Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, the Son of the living God, the Messiah (in Greek Χριστός, Christ).
