Contents:
Map of Sheshonq I's military campaign movements
Prince of the Berber Mâchaouach tribe of Libyan origin, Sheshonq I ascended the Egyptian throne around 945 BC. Shortly after his accession to power, he embarked on a military expedition unprecedented since Ramses III (20th dynasty), which took him to the two kingdoms of the South (Judah) and North (Israel).
The itinerary of his campaign is reported on the outer southern wall of the Temple of Amon-Ra at Karnak.
